Bryne (or Bryan) was organist of St Paul's (except when ejected during the Commonwealth) from 1638 until the cathedral was destroyed by the great fire of London. He then achieved the post of organist at Westminster Abbey. Sometimes the waters of Helicon are quaffed by as many (sequentially) as the tap water of London is reputed to be. This edition relies heavily on Rimbault's 1847 revision of Samuel Arnold's "Cathedral Music", itself based upon items which William Boyce was unable to include in his own collection, which was, in its own turn, derived from items passed to him by Maurice Greene. Time willing, I hope to identify reliable earlier sources, and to eliminate anachronistic misreadings and "improvements". At which point this caveat will be suppressed.

MAGNIFICAT
My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him: throughout all generations.
He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace: according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen: thy salvation,

To be a light to lighten the Gentiles: and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
