John Broderip was perhaps the most prominent member of a dynasty of west country musicians. He was organist at Wells Cathedral (succeeding his father) and published psalmody and glees.

This anthem is from his "New set of anthems and psalm tunes for the use of parish churches", c.1745.

Lyrics: Luke ch. 2 v.10,11,13,14

"Behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born a saviour, which is Christ the Lord." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heav'nly host, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the high'st, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men. Hallelujah."

John Broderip
