John Broderip was perhaps the most prominent member of a dynasty of west country musicians. He was organist at Wells Cathedral (succeeding his father) and published psalmody and glees.

This anthem is from his "Second set of anthems and psalm tunes.... for the use of parish churches and other places of divine worship", 1749.

Lyrics: Psalm 57, v.9-12

Awake up, my glory; awake, lute and harp: I myself will awake right early.
I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
For the greatness of thy mercy reacheth unto the heav'ns: and thy truth unto the clouds.
Set up thyself, O God, above the heav'ns: and thy glory above all the earth.

John Broderip
(1719 - 1770)
