Milgrove was Precentor of the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel in Bath (see illustration). This setting comes from his second (of three) collections of "hymns as they are sung at the Right Honourable the Countess of Huntingdon's chappel in Bath". The general congregation (sometimes divided into men and women) should sing the Air, accompanying harmonies to be taken by the choir.

Lyrics: Charles Wesley

Praise the Lord, who reigns above
And keeps his courts below;
Praise the holy God of love,
And all his greatness shew.
Praise Him for his noble deeds,
Praise Him for his matchless pow'r:
Him from whom all good proceeds,
Let earth and heav'n adore.

Publish, spread to all around
The great Emmanuel's name;
Let the trumpet's martial sound
Him lord of hosts proclaim.
Praise him ev'ry tuneful string,
All the reach of heav'nly art;
All the pow'rs of music bring
The music of the heart.

Him in whom they move and live
Let ev'ry creature sing;
Glory to their maker give,
And homage to their king.
Hallowed be his name beneath,
As in heav'n on earth adored.
Praise the Lord in ev'ry breath;
Let all things praise the Lord!
