Milgrove was Precentor of the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel in Bath (see illustration). This setting comes from his first (of three) collections of "hymns as they are sung at the Right Honourable the Countess of Huntingdon's chappel in Bath". The general congregation (sometimes divided into men and women) should sing the Air, accompanying harmonies to be taken by the choir.
Lyrics: Anon

He comes, He comes, the judge severe!
The seventh trumpet speaks him near.
His lightnings flash, his thunders roll;
He's welcome to the faithful soul.

From heav'n angelic voices sound.
See the almighty Jesus crowned.
Girt with omnipotence and grace,
And glory decks the Saviour's face.

Descending on his azure throne,
He claims the kingdom for his own:
The kingdoms all obey his word,
And hail Him their triumphant Lord.

Shout all the people of the sky,
And all the saints of the most high;
Our God, who now his right obtains,
For ever and for ever reigns.

The Father praise, the Son adore,
The Spirit bless for ever more:
Salvation's glorious work is done.
We welcome Thee, great Three in One.
