Motet, inspired by 1 Samuel, written most probably for use at the commemoration of a Venetian feat of arms. Instruments may be used to replace or reinforce the voices. This edition is offered at original pitch for S.S.A.A.T.T.B.B. or transposed down a fourth for the same forces.
Lyrics: Anon
Percussit Saul mille, et David decem millia, quia manus Domini erat cum illo.
Percussit Philistaeum et abstulit opprobrium ex Israel.
Nonne iste David de quo canebat in choro, dicentes:
Percussit Saul mille, et David decem millia, quia manus Domini erat cum illo.
Saul has slain his thousand, and David his ten thousands, because the hand of the Lord was with him.
He killed the Philistine and removed disgrace from Israel.
Is this not that David of whom they sang in their dances, saying:
Saul has slain his thousand, and David his ten thousands, because the hand of the Lord was with him.
