Between 1763 and 1794 Thomas Warren published, through differing publishers, an annual collection of catches, canons and glees, under the aegis of the Catch Club. This item was published in the twenty-fifth such collection.

Lyrics: Anon

Crown'd with roses, let us quaff
The gen'rous liquor, jest and laugh;
Let our lasses dance around
To the cittern's sportive sound,
Each a Thirsis in her hand;
Let the boys too join the band;
One shall sing and one shall play,
All shall merry be and gay.

Cupid, with his golden hair,
Ever young and ever fair;
Bacchus, sprightly god and gay;
Venus, queen of love and May.
These our choir shall join, and bring
With them everlasting spring.
Beauty, mirth and wine and love
Ev'ry sorrow shall remove.

John Danby
