That make divisions and ornamentation,
Adopt a soft tone and, in just time,
Mindful of the song's meaning.
Conduct yourselves like the linnet,
That takes pleasure in its graceful song.
Be adept of ear and eye,
Or it would be better to be silent.
But I humbly ask you to make sure
Not to sing if you have nothing to drink.
