"Mr Paisibles Musick Perform'd before her Majesty and the new King of Spain". London, (?)1704. Paisible composed for the theatre, but also provided Queen Anne with music such as this, for use on state occasions. Archduke Charles of Austria (ultimately unsuccessful claimant to the Spanish throne, but the Allies' candidate at this stage of the War of the Spanish Succession) was entertained at Windsor in the final days of December, 1703 and "extremely fine" music was played throughout the meal. The music can be played as scored; for a standard string or reed band (omitting the trumpet part); or with oboe reinforcement of the string parts and with a simple timpani addition to the movements containing trumpet.
