"The favorite Air Adeste Fideles Harmoniz'd as a quartett for two Violins, Tenor and Bass, (after the manner of Haydn's celebrated hymn to the Emperor) as performed by Mr and Messrs Loder at Bath &c, Messrs Hermann at Liverpool, &c"

On his visit to England Haydn had been impressed by the stately character of the English national anthem, and his "Emperor's Hymn", included in his Op.76 no.3, was his response, appearing in 1797. His admiration for the English was reciprocated.
