"The much admired Quick Step called The Downfall of Paris.", Edinburgh, c.1795. "N.B. This favorite piece has been and now is played with the greatest applause by the band of the 1st battalion of the Royal Edinburgh Volunteers."

Based upon the French revolutionary song Ça ira, the tune became popular from the mid 1790s and became ubiquitous amongst the allied military bands occupying Paris after the Battle of Waterloo. It is here arranged for string trio and/or pianoforte or harp.
