A motet for St Cecilia's Day published in Motetti del Laberinto, libro terzo, Venice, 1554. This edition is offered at original pitch (high chiavette) for S.A.A.T. or transposed down a fourth for A.T.T.B.
Lyrics: Latin Antiphon
Virgo gloriosa semper evangelium Christi
gerebat in pectore suo;
et non diebus neque noctibus
vacabat a colloquiis divinis et oratione.
Cilicio Cecilia membra domabat,
Deum gemitibus exorabat;
et non diebus neque noctibus
vacabat a colloquiis divinis et oratione.
That glorious virgin always carried
the gospel of Christ in her breast;
in neither day nor night did she cease
from communion with God or from prayer.
Cecilia humbled her limbs with sackcloth,
She prevailed upon God with her sobbing;
in neither day nor night did she cease
from communion with God or from prayer.
