Lyrics: Anon
Une bergère un jour aux champs était,
sous un buisson prenant chemise blanche;
Et le berger,qui de près la guettait,
Qui doulcement la tira par la manche,
En lui disant "Margot, voici mon anche;
Jouons nous deux de cette cornemuse,
Car c'est un jeu où souvent tu t'amuse".
Elle sourit, disant en telle forte,
"J'ai tambourin joli dont toujours j'use;
Frappez dessus, la peau est assez forte".
So in the fields one day there's this shepherdess,
Under a bush and wearing a white smock,
And the shepherd, prowling close to her,
who gently tugs her sleeve,
Saying "Margot, here's my chanter;
Let's both play on my cornemuse,
it's a game you play often to entertain yourself".
Smiling she replies animatedly,
I've an ace tabor I often play;
Thwack the bottom, the skin's strong enough.
