From Ch. Ch. Mus 19. An anthem composed for use in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. It is probable that an organ accompaniment would have been used; there is no reference to an instrumental line, either figured or unfigured, in the autograph score.
Lyrics: Psalm 102: 1-4,10,12,13
Hear my prayer, O Lord: and let my crying come unto thee.
O hear me, and that right soon.
For my days are consumed away like smoke: and my bones are burnt up as it were a firebrand.
My heart is smitten down, and withered like the grass: so that I forget to eat my bread.
And that because of thine indignation and wrath: for thou hast taken me up, and cast me down.
But thou, O Lord, shalt endure for ever: and thy remembrance throughout all generations.
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Sion: for it is time to have mercy upon her, yea, the time is come.
